President's Note
We enjoy a very special geographical position. Within our boundaries are the Monarchy, Parliament, the offices of Government, the Civil Service, the Royal Courts of Justice, as well as the main offices of many national and international organisations.
We represent a wide range of lawyers and legal practices in the heart of London. Among our members are many market leaders, including some of the acknowledged experts in areas such as parliamentary work, insurance, professional indemnity, IP and media, trusts, family law and other specialised legal disciplines. The range may be wide and various but we share a commitment to the same guiding principle: recognition that our first duty is to the law.
Our specialist committees, made up of practitioners with a wealth of experience and expertise, are among the most active in the country in responding to consultation papers issued by central government, the Law Commission, the Law Society and others.
Every year we run a series of high quality lectures that are an easy way to fulfil most of your CPD requirements.
Our reputation as a friendly organization is enhanced by various social events during the year. On Wednesday, 9th June, we host the Legal Charities Garden Party, a great opportunity to renew old friendships and to make new ones, while supporting good causes.
The Society’s annual dinner is another highlight of our year and, indeed, of Legal London's year. In 2010 the annual dinner will be on Monday, 12th April. Members are also very welcome to join us at occasional informal dinners following our committee meetings, when there is often the opportunity to discuss current issues with distinguished guests, in a relaxed atmosphere.
We welcome new members to the Society, for the main committee and each of our specialist sub-committees. Please contact me or any of the sub-committee chairs if you feel able to contribute in any way.
If you are a lawyer practising in our area and you are not already a member, I hope you will choose to join us.
Any member, or prospective member, who wishes to discuss anything concerning the Society, is very welcome to contact me by
