Members of WHLS attended the FBE Congress in Bucharest where the theme centred on Professional Secrecy, Lawyers’ Duty of Confidentiality and Client Trust under the Pressure of KYC and AML Regulations.
We were warmly welcomed by delegates of the Federation of European Bars (FBE) and heard from our counterparts in Brussels, Spain, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Turkey and of course Romania.
Each member provided a report on their ongoing commission which strives to share knowledge and support lawyers in Europe and internationally, including an excellent report from WHLS’ International Committee member, Sara Chandler, who leads the FBE’s Human Rights commission.
Congress meetings were held at the impressive faculty of law of Bucharest University. We were also treated to wonderful Romanian hospitality, in particular the gala dinner held at the beautiful Bucharest Diplomatic Golf Club.
We look forward to our next gathering later in the year in Antalya, Turkey.
